Chancellor James Oblinger canceled classes Thursday that begin before 10 a.m. due to predicted adverse weather conditions. According to the weather forecast, mixed precipitation could cause icy roads.
According to News Services Director Keith Nichols, the chancellor made the decision early because it would be easier to get the word out than if he were to make it at 4 a.m. when the precipitation began to fall.
“It’s a matter of looking at the probability of prevailing conditions in this certain case,” he said.
Events on campus before 10 a.m. are also canceled unless Charles Leffler, vice chancellor for finance and business, gives the groups permission to hold their events.
Essential employees of the University should arrived as scheduled, according to Chad Austin of Information Services, while non-essential should arrive by 10.
