LSU senior libero Elena Martinez and junior middle blocker Brittnee Cooper picked up American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American awards for their play during the 2008 season.The pair was also named to the ACVA All-South Region First-Team shortly after the Tigers’ run into postseason play was ended with a 3-1 loss to UCLA.Martinez, a two-time Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, anchored the Tigers’ defensive effort this season, racking up 516 digs, including 20 or more digs in 11 of her last 13 matches.The New Orleans native concluded her career as a Tiger with 1,414 career digs, ranking her second in program history.Cooper, an All-SEC First-Team selection, was second on the team with 302 kills, including 226 kills in the SEC. She ranked fifth in the conference with a .343 attack percentage.The Houston native was a solid defensive presence for the Tigers, tallying 126 blocks on the season.Martinez was an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American last season for the Tigers.
