The University’s Dance Ensemble finished a semester of practicing with a final concert Saturday night in the Union Theater.
The Hip Hop Coalition, Tap Ensemble and other facets of the Dance Ensemble joined together for the contemporary dance show, which featured jazz, ballet, tap and classical pieces.
Students choreographed all of the show’s pieces.
Lori Byargeon, French senior, said the concert was a composition of a variety of smaller pieces that did not necessarily share a common theme.
“There was a little bit of everything, and there was something for everybody,” said Byargeon, who choreographed the ballet piece, “Dream Your Troubles Away.”
Matt McGeachy, animal science sophomore, said the audience got to view a variety of dance genres.
“When people came to the dance concert, they were not bombarded by one type of dancing,” McGeachy said. “This way, students can get a good survey of the LSU dance concert.”
Jessica Donley, anthropology senior, said the dance concert showcased the variety of dance talent at the University.
“I thought it was great that we represented the dances of many LSU students,” Donley said.
Donley said the Dance Ensemble features a wide collection of dancers.
“There is people of all shapes, sizes, genders and ethnic backgrounds,” Donley said. “It was powerful.”
Byargeon said that despite the rainy weather Saturday night, many people still attended the concert.
“We were very pleased with the turnout,” Byargeon said.
McGeachy, who choreographed his own tap piece titled, “I’m Home,” said preparing for the dance concert took many hours of practice.
“Practices started at the beginning of the semester, and we practiced six hours a week,” McGeachy said. “And we had many practices outside of class too to get us ready for the performance.”
