LSU women’s basketball assistant coach Christie Sides has resigned her position, coach Van Chancellor said Friday morning. Sides’ resignation came two weeks after assistant coach Carla Berry resigned April 13. Their resignations leave assistant coach Bob Starkey as the only remaining coach from former coach Pokey Chatman’s staff. Chancellor has repeatedly said Starkey will remain on staff. Sides’ and Berry’s resignations came more than a month after Chatman announced her resignation March 7 amid allegations of inappropriate conduct with one or more former players. Chancellor said he gave Sides about three days off the week before her resignation to make a decision about her future. “It saddens me,” Chancellor said after Friday’s practice. “I hate to see her leave.” Chancellor and Starkey held a regular practice Friday and continued various shooting drills. Chancellor kept the mood light-hearted and nearly made a hook shot from half court after he challenged junior guard Quianna Chaney to a shoot-off. Chancellor said he has four total candidates to fill either Berry’s or Sides’ position. He said one candidate will be in Baton Rouge today to interview for an assistant coach position. Sides spent three seasons as the Lady Tigers’ assistant coach. She was an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech for two years before assuming her LSU coaching position. In her collegiate basketball career, Sides played two seasons under Chancellor at the University of Mississippi before transferring to Louisiana Tech. “It was a difficult decision as I have tremendous respect for Coach Chancellor,” Sides said in an LSUsports.net news release. “I am considering many different career opportunities and will take my time before making my next move. I will always cherish the experience I had at LSU and know that those experiences will open many doors for my professional future.”
