LSU coach Les Miles said sophomore quarterback Ryan Perrilloux should be available to play during LSU’s homecoming game this Saturday against Louisiana Tech.
“I would expect that [Perrilloux] would be at practice [Monday] and take snaps,” Miles said Monday at his weekly press luncheon.
Perrilloux missed Saturday’s 41-34 win against Alabama because he was not allowed to practice with the team as a result of his alleged involvement in an Oct. 26 altercation outside the Varsity Theatre.
Following the altercation, Miles dismissed freshman linebacker Derrick Odom III and junior linebacker Jeremy Benton from the team.
Miles said the frenzy surrounding the altercation and its aftermath is not finished, and he said he is still reviewing the matter “in house.”
“I’m taking into account a really inconsistent reviewing process,” Miles said. “I want to make sure I do my homework … There’s some more work for me to do. I don’t know that it’ll change things much. If it does, certainly [the media] will see it.”
Before being disciplined, Perrilloux saw action in all of LSU’s games this season.
With starting quarterback Matt Flynn injured, Perrilloux made his first and only career start Sept. 15 against Middle Tennessee. In that game, the Reserve native completed 20 of 25 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns.
For the season, Perrilloux has thrown for 414 yards and six touchdowns and has rushed for 192 yards and two scores.
Injury Bug Bites Again
Several Tiger players were injured during Saturday’s victory against Alabama.
Senior defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, who injured his right knee in the Auburn game, was a victim of a block below the waist from an Auburn offensive lineman and reinjured the same knee late in the first quarter of Saturday’s game.
Dorsey returned later in the half and finished the contest with seven tackles and a sack.
Junior linebacker Darry Beckwith, junior offensive guard Herman Johnson and junior defensive tackle Marlon Favorite also sustained injuries during the game, but all three returned later to action.
Miles said the only injured player that could miss the Louisiana Tech game is Beckwith.
“He’s probably in the worst shape,” Miles said. “I think it’s likely he’ll be back for the Ole Miss game, and it’s possibly unlikely he’ll be back for the Ole Miss game.”
Senior Saviors
Miles praised the performance of the Tigers during Saturday’s game, especially Flynn’s play in the second half.
Flynn, who finished 24-of-44 for 353 yards, threw three interceptions in the second quarter and LSU trailed 20-17 at halftime.
But Flynn improved his performance after the break, throwing for two scores and no interceptions.
Miles said the main characteristic of a championship caliber team is the ability to bounce back after committing mistakes.
“If the opponent has 12 opportunities to beat you, and we make the 13th and 14th opportunities to win, that’s key,” Miles said. “Matt Flynn has that.”
Senior wide receiver Early Doucet caught five passes for 67 yards against Alabama and tied the score at 34 with a 32-yard reception on fourth down with 2:49 left in the game.
After freshman safety Chad Jones forced a fumble during Alabama’s next possession, senior running back Jacob Hester scored the game-winning 1-yard touchdown – his eighth of the season – with 1:26 remaining in the contest.
Afternoon in OxfordThe Southeastern Conference announced Monday that the Nov. 17 game between LSU and Ole Miss will be televised by CBS at 2:30 p.m.
The matchup will be the fourth time this season CBS will televise an LSU matchup. It will also be the Tigers’ third contest this season that has kicked off at 2:30 p.m.
LSU defeated South Carolina, 28-16, in a 2:30 p.m. game Sept. 22. The Tigers lost to Kentucky in triple overtime, 43-37, in their other 2:30 p.m. game this season.
Week of CelebrationIn addition to celebrating homecoming this weekend against Louisiana Tech, Miles will also have a different type of celebration – his birthday.
Miles, who turns 54 on Saturday, said he hopes to forget about his birthday and would rather focus on Louisiana Tech.
“I’m a man of simple pleasures,” Miles said. “Don’t have a lot of time for celebrations. Quality football – that would be a great gift to me. Then go home and hang out with the kids and the wife and start [game week] all over again.”
