Students will soon have Subway as a dining option on campus in Foster Hall between Thomas Boyd and behind Middleton Library, where Foster Cafe was formally located.
David Heidke, director of LSU dining, said he wants Subway to be open before the start of class on August 27.
“We are hoping to start construction in the next couple of weeks,” he said. “Our goal is to have it open before the first day of class in August.”
The new Subway is expected to feature a full menu, including sandwiches, salads and wraps.
“The only limitation would be space,” Heidke said. Subway will be joining CC’s Cafe as another dining option for students on the north side of campus. “We wanted to bring another option,” he said. “Currently, we have two Blimpies on campus.”
Several students on campus had never been to Foster Cafe, where the new Subway will be located. “I haven’t [been to Foster Cafe], probably because I don’t know where it’s located,” said Ashley Richardson, psychology senior.
Richardson said if a Subway was placed in Foster Hall she would be likely to go there. “If there is a Subway, then I’d go to Foster Hall, because the Union doesn’t have a wide healthy variety.” she said. “I don’t like eating McDonalds every day.”
Garrett Galjour, mass communication sophomore, said he has never been in that area, but having a Subway there will not get him to go there more. “I have just never been in that area.” he said. “I’ll eat Subway , but I won’t go there because I am never in that area.”
Brittany Taylor, psychology senior, said she frequents Subway about once a week. “Yes, [I’ll go to the Subway in Foster] because they are healthy and the food tastes good,” she said. Other students on campus are unsure about the new addition. “The one on West State Street is close enough,” said Welton Seal, philosophy senior. “I’d probably never go to the one in Foster, I don’t even know where that is.”
