The No. 10 LSU women’s golf team finished the 28th annual LSU Golf Classic in third place at 3-over par 867 in a rainy three-day, 18-team tournament at the University Club in Baton Rouge.Arkansas’s Lucy Nunn, Virginia’s Calle Nielson and South Carolina’s Benedicte Toumpson were all tied at 7-under 209 when the match ended. Nunn took the individual victory in a playoff after two birdies.After finishing the first day in third place, LSU fell to sixth place after shooting a 9-over 297 on the second day but finished the tournament back in third.The Lady Tigers’ strongest round of play came on the final day of competition, when LSU shot a 5-under 283.With LSU’s No. 1 player, sophomore Megan McChrystal, held out of the tournament due to an illness, LSU women’s coach Karen Bahnsen said she was impressed with her team’s performance.”I could not be more proud of my team for what they did playing without the No. 9 player in the country,” Bahnsen said in a news release.Freshman Jacqueline Hedwall led the Lady Tigers with a 4-under 212, finishing tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard.LSU sophomore Amalie Valle finished at even-par 216, tying for 14th on the leaderboard.The rain throughout the weekend soaked the field but did not seriously affect the first home tournament for the Lady Tigers.After No. 3 Virginia finished day one behind No. 8 Wake Forest, Virginia took the lead on the second day and never looked back. They won the tournament by five strokes with a 8-under 856.Tulane also finished ahead of LSU with a 3-under 861, good enough for second place in the tournament.
