The No. 15 LSU men’s swimming and diving team dominated this weekend as it took the top spot at the Cougar Classic Fall Invitational. The No. 21 Lady Tigers took third in a field of nine.
The Tigers scored 1,448 points, while second-place Southern Methodist only managed 687.
Texas A&M took the top spot for the women, scoring 1,563 points.
“I’m proud of our teams, coming into a championship-formatted meet for the first time this season and racing hard,” LSU coach Adam Schmitt said in a news release. “Our men’s team won the competition, and the women competed well, going against some outstanding programs like Texas A&M and SMU.”
LSU swimmers earned a plethora of NCAA qualifying times as well as a few school records.
Freshman swimmer Craig Hamilton picked up two NCAA qualifying times. One was in the 1,650-yard freestyle, and the other was in the 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Mary Beck broke a 14-year-old school record in the 200-yard individual medley and also broke a record in the 200-yard backstroke.
Beck also logged NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 100 back and 200 freestyle.
“We’ve had a good start to our season over the past couple of months, and we hope to continue training well for the second half,” Schmitt said.
