The fourth-ranked LSU softball team opened its season against Oklahoma State in the Tiger Classic Friday night, defeating the Cowgirls by a score of 14-2.
The Tigers got off to a fast start and never looked back.
After a one-hit first inning by Oklahoma State, the Tigers scored four runs in the bottom frame. Oklahoma State took one run back in the top of the second inning, but LSU put up seven runs in the bottom half to put the game out of reach. The Tigers would score three more insurance runs in the bottom of the third to go up 14-1.
Freshman Amanda Doyle recorded her first career hit in her first at-bat, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs on the day. Sophomore Elyse Thornhill went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, and senior Bailey Landry went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Junior pitcher Allie Walljasper had a strong outing, pitching a complete game. She gave up nine hits, two earned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts to earn her first win of the season. She also helped out offensively, getting an RBI in her only hit of the afternoon.
