LSU’s Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted its 2017 Mr. Pink and Green Pageant Sunday night in the Student Union Theater. If the goal was to have a good time, they definitely scored.
“It was definitely a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun interacting with the crowd” Big O, one of the pageant hosts, said.
The first category was talent. The contestants showed off some musical and poetic skills. One contestant, Shawn Taylor, performed a comedy act in which he imitated the salt man, an Internet sensation right now.
Contestants competed in swim and formal wear categories where they showed off some of their charm and unique styles.
During the Question and Answer category, contestants shared their thoughts about how to use social media as a teaching tool.
The aka’s had special performances from the Legacy Dance Team and Nilly, an upcoming rapper and LSU alum.
After a fun-filled night, the judges named Darren Davis the 2017 Mr. Pink and Green. He said the moment was amazing, and he is so thankful for the ladies of AKA for all their time and encouragement throughout the process.
“It was a really good feeling to know all that hard work paid off,” Darren Davis said.
“Everything that he exuded on that stage is him in real life. Everything about him was just completely genuine, so I was really glad that he won,” Big O said.
The AKA’s are proud of their event, and they are looking forward to hosting even better events in the future for the LSU community.
