As the postseason begins to loom, coach Fran Flory and the LSU volleyball program announced five signees that will join the Tigers next fall.
The five are Darian Goins, Whitney Foreman, Leigh Maher, Paige Hilliard and Kate Cowan.
Goins will leave behind a surplus of accomplishments when she arrives to the bayou. Coming from Avon High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, she recently led her team to a state championship and received First Team All-State honors. Along with taking state, she led her team to a Hendricks County Championship, as well as two Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year award selections and being named an AVCA Under Armour Second Team All-American this fall.
Houston native, Foreman, was ranked No. 9 among the USA Top 10 players and Second Team American Family Insurance All-American. Foreman led her high school team to success and held a pivotal role in her club team, the Texas Tornados. Foreman led the Tornadoes to third place at nationals and first-place at the Lone Star tournament.
Maher decided to stay put in the state of Louisiana when signing to LSU. From Metairie Park Country Day High School in Metairie, Louisiana, Maher reached success in leading her high school to two state championships in 2014 and 2016.
Maher will be competing in the state championship once again this year in hopes of a repeat from last year.
Maher is a multi-sport athlete in high school, competing in volleyball, basketball and track and field. Maher has earned a plethora of awards throughout her time in high school such as All-Metro New Orleans Advocate, All-State LVCA, and Time-Picayune/Nola.com Preseason All-Metro. She is also a part of the Metairie Park Country Day 2000+ dig club.
Hilliard will join the Tigers from Punahou High School in Kaa’wa, Hawaii. Over her high school career, she helped lead her team to three consecutive third-place finishes in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and was an Honorable Mention selection in 2016 by the Star Advertiser. She also received the Presidential Award in her academic career.
Cowan played at John H. Guyer High School in Corinth, Texas, leading her team to two District Championships and an Area Championship in 2014. She was recognized as the district Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and earned Second Team All-District honors.
Cowan led her club team, Texas Advantage Volleyball (TAV), to a 17 Open National Championship this summer, as well as a USA National Championship in 2013.
