LSU is self-imposing penalties on the women’s tennis team following an investigation from both the University and NCAA.
LSU has been aware of the violations since May and notified coaches of the investigation and possible penalties in July according to the school’s press release.
The investigation yielded three level III/secondary violations by the program.
- A recruit was given $68 worth of team gear
- Two recruits were given special hitting sessions
- $250 payment was given to a former player to conduct a hitting session with a recruit
The women’s tennis program will not be allowed to recruit for 30 days, practice for a week and prospects will not be allowed to hit at LSU tennis facilities for a whole academic year.
“Julia and Michael are terrific coaches and honorable people and we stand firmly by them in this matter,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said in a press release. “We’re also going to learn from this for the future and be accountable with these self-imposed penalties.”
According to the press release, the NCAA has accepted the penalties and have closed the investigation.
