Naval Cmdr. John Filostrat will speak today in the Manship School of Mass Communication at 12:15. He will discuss the Naval surgical ship’s role in aiding Haiti earthquake victims, and ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy and the bible inscription debate on weapons. Filostrat, a native of New Orleans, spent 10 years on active duty, serving as the Deputy Public Affairs Officer, or PAO, for the Commander of the Navy Reserve Force, as PAO onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and as operations and plans PAO at Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In 1990, Filostrat earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication.
