The LSU Women’s Basketball team rung in the new year with a 85 to 65 win against the Vanderbilt Commodores in SEC play on Sunday at home this year instead of on the road.
In her first game against an SEC team freshmen center Faustine Aifuwa came ready to play. Six of Aifuwa’s 14 points came from her rebounds.
“I knew that I could get every board and put back every shot, when I have that mentality it’s easy for me,” Aifuwa said.
Head Coach Nikki Fargas was pleased in what her young player brought to the Tiger’s win, with and without the basketball by creating an open lane for her teammates.
LSU could not be stopped on the defensive end with LSU senior guard Raigyne Louis leading the way with eight of the Tigers 17 steals.
“Everybody was just going after it, we trapped and everything started happening for us defensively,” Louis said.
LSU junior guard Chloe Jackson lead the way for the Tigers in the first half scoring 11 points and ended the game with 25. Jackosn was on fire scoring 3-of-7 from behind the arc.
Throughout the game the score tied three times, but the Tigers fought harder to maintain and keep the lead.
The Tigers (9-3)  next SEC game will be away at Missouri (13-1) and can be watched on SEC Network at 7 p.m.
