Fall Fest has been rescheduled again for Friday, making this the University’s third attempt at holding the large-scale pep rally.
The event is normally held the Friday before the first home football game but was postponed because of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It will be held in the Quad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with its traditional entertainment by the Tiger Band, Golden Girls and cheerleaders and free food.
The University has prepared to serve 25,000 students.
Michelle Gieg, Student Government president, said Fall Fest brings together students that are not normally involved with student organizations and functions.
“Fall Fest brings together the spirit of the University in a lot of ways,” Gieg said. “It is something all students can enjoy and take a break from the stress and the challenges that we’ve all faced this semester.”
Randy Gurie, director of University special events, told the Daily Reveille after the cancelation of the second-scheduled Fall Fest, that the festival is an important part of University history and tradition.
“It is a great experience – the only one besides LSU football, that people talk about from year to year,” Gurie said.
The festival will include free hamburgers, sausage po-boys, pizza, chips, drinks, popsicles and ice cream.
University Recreation will provide a 24-foot portable climbing wall and local businesses and student organizations will have tables set up for students to visit.
Gieg said SG will be taking donations for the Student Relief Fund.
SG will also be selling pajama pants, traditionally worn to the first home game, and the bookstore will be selling Florida game day T-shirts.
