The University announced Monday that classes would remain cancelled through Thursday in the wake of Hurricane Katrina’s impact on the state.
Patrick Downs, Student Government Vice President, said that although classes would not start until Thursday, University faculty and staff were being asked to return to work Wednesday if possible.
Downs also said that Chancellor Sean O’Keefe and Provost Risa Palm were encouraging teachers to be lenient on students who were affected by the storm.
All University deadlines, including the final day to drop a class without receiving a “W,” were also extended through Thursday.
Downs said the Union and the Rec center would re-open Tuesday morning, although he was unsure what services would be open in the Union.”Think of it as a place to hang out,” Downs said.
The Highland and Pentagon dining units will remain on a 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. continuous schedule Tuesday, and then return to their normal hours on Wednesday.
