This year’s LSU women’s basketball team continues to receive accolades and recognition since its season ended at the Elite Eight.
Full Court Press, a national publication dedicated to women’s basketball, named freshman guard/forward Seimone Augustus a third team All-American and placed her on the All-Newcomer team as well.
Junior guard Temeka Johnson was selected as a third team All-American by www.womenscollegehoops.com. The Web site also listed Augustus for the honorable mention All-American team.
“Anytime that type of recognition is extended to one of our players, it speaks well not only for them, but for the team and their accomplishment this year,” said LSU coach Sue Gunter.
Augustus led LSU in scoring during her freshman year. She averaged 14.8 points and 5.6 rebounds a game while shooting over 54 percent from the field. Augustus also led the team from the line, shooting 88.8 percent from the charity stripe.
Johnson averaged 10 points while pulling down 5.9 rebounds a game. She shined in the Southeastern Conference Tournament earning MVP honors and also was among three finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award given annually to the nation’s best point guard.
Gunter said although she is partial to her players and believes they deserve first team recognition, she is happy with this recognition and believes it speaks well for the program.
