The University student who was hospitalized for a fall at the Acacia fraternity house died Friday.
LSUPD Cpt. Mark Shaw said 19-year-old Jason Whittle, a sophomore in business administration and a member of Acacia fraternity, fell Wednesday from the second floor rear deck balcony of the Acacia house striking his head and back on the concrete.
Whittle was hospitalized in critical condition for more than 24 hours at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
An obituary in The Times-Picayune said Whittle, a 2002 graduate of St. Paul’s School in Covington, La., died Friday at 2:50 a.m.
Shaw said LSUPD is not prepared to release any other details of the incident, but it appears to be an accident. Shaw said he does not suspect any foul play.
In a statement released through University Relations, Chancellor Mark Emmert expressed his sympathy to Whittle’s friends and family.
“The LSU community is shocked and devastated to learn that we have lost another of our students, Jason Paul Whittle, to an incomprehensible accident,” Emmert said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Whittle family and we join them in grieving the loss of Jason.”
