LSUPD is investigating an alleged rape that occurred on campus Sept. 13.
LSUPD Capt. Mark Shaw said the victim did not report the incident until Sept. 27, after talking the matter over with friends.
Shaw said the incident occurred along the west side of the Veterinary Science Building, also called Francioni Hall.
According to the “Crime Alerts” section of the LSUPD Web site, the two suspects are white males, age 28 to 33.
The Web site said the victim told authorities she was walking along South Campus Drive from her on-campus job to her on-campus apartment when two men allegedly approached her from behind.
One of the men allegedly put his arm around the victim’s throat and mouth while the other man grabbed the victim’s arm. The two men then allegedly raped the woman near a stairwell.
Shaw said the Sept. 13 incident does not appear to be related to the Aug. 30 rape near the Rec Center.
Shaw also said though the rapes occurred on football game days, they do not appear to be connected.
“That’s a possibility, but it does not appear to be connected,” Shaw said.
Shaw said LSUPD is not planning to increase its patrols, but there are certain things people can do to keep themselves safe.
Shaw said people should always keep doors and windows locked, travel in groups, pay attention to their surroundings and make eye contact with anyone they pass.
“In this day and age, you cannot relax your guard at any time,” Shaw said.
Shaw said LSUPD already has officers working overtime in areas such as East and West Campus Apartments and the sorority houses.
“During the regular course of events, we have a pretty good amount of officers out and about,” Shaw said.
Composite sketches of the two suspects in the Sept. 13 rape are available in the “Crime Alerts” section of the LSUPD Web site, www.lsu.edu/police. LSUPD is continuing to investigate both incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call LSUPD at 578-3231.
