The University has named Kevin Carman the interim dean of the College of Basic Sciences.
Carman replaces Harold Silverman, who was recently named to the new position of vice-provost for arts, sciences and engineering.
Carman previously served as an associate dean of Basic Sciences.
Executive Vice-Chancellor and Provost Risa Palm said she thought Carman was a good choice for the position because of his understanding and commitment to the University’s Flagship Agenda.
In addition, Palm said Carman’s administrative experience and his experience as a professor in the biological sciences department made him an excellent choice.
Carman said he considers his new position both a challenge and an “exciting opportunity.”
Carman said one of his foremost goals as interim dean is to attract high quality faculty members, and ensure that the searches for those new faculty are successfully completed.
Carman will serve in the position while the University conducts a nationwide search for a new permanent dean.
