LSU fans’ biggest fear came true Thursday night.
When class of 2025 five-star recruit Bryce Underwood changed his mind and flipped his commitment from LSU to the University of Michigan, social media blew up. He’s especially receiving criticism for a statement he made prior to his flip about the recruiting process.
“If you are committed to a school,” Underwood said at an On3 event, “stay committed to a school.”
Now, he’s both in the spotlight and under fire for his decision. While LSU football and its fans have spoken on the situation, so have some of LSU’s other 2025 recruits.
Five-star running back Harlem Berry said on X on Nov. 21 that he wasn’t answering any questions about the situation. On Instagram, he reposted a graphic about Underwood’s flip, followed by the notorious clip of Lebron James saying “I was… I was a little… I was a little like, damn.”
As for Zion Williams, the three-star defensive lineman took to social media quickly to ease the minds of Tiger fans.
“What I said yesterday still stands,” Williams said in an X post on Nov. 21. “I ain’t commit for him.”
What Williams said “yesterday” is in reference to his X post on Nov. 20. After On3 reported he was going to take an unofficial visit to the University of Texas, he shut down flip rumors immediately.
“I’m not going anywhere other than LSU I was just trynna watch some good games and if you didn’t hear it from me it ain’t true,” the X post said.
An X user replied to Williams’ Nov. 21 statement, claiming Williams only committed to LSU for the money and should “get out of there before [Kelly] gets fired.”
Williams responded with two emojis: a thumbs down and a laughing face. LSU fans can breathe – it seems like Williams is here to stay.
Four-star edge rusher Damien Shanklin was short and simple on X. On Nov. 21, his first post was an immediate reaction: three face-palm emojis. The next was more direct, with him similarly saying, “I’m not answering no questions about Bryce Underwood.”
The next morning, Shanklin posted a photo with LSU football recruiting and operations analyst Patrick Kelly from one of his official visits to LSU, with the caption “Geauxxx,” along with a tiger emoji.
With Underwood out, the Tiger recruiting class now ranks No. 6 overall, according to 247Sports. So, what does the future of LSU football look like? It may be without the No. 1 quarterback and overall recruit, but some hope can be found in the recruits that are staying.
