Before this SEC matchup with a tough Vanderbilt team, LSU Women’s Basketball got the chance to honor Forward Aneesah Morrow for surpassing 2,500 career points, but that was not all. During this game Morrow brought in 15 rebounds bringing her career total to 1,500. Morrow is only the 8th player in NCAA history to have 2.500 points and 1,500 rebounds in a career.
Although Vanderbilt was coming off a two game losing streak coming into Baton Rouge their resilience shined through as they held their own against a top 5 team in the country. Staying within 6 the commodores gave the Tigers a scare as they stayed right on their tail for the entirety of the game with 13 lead changes and 7 times tied.
Flaujae Johnson finished with 25 points and four assists, Mikaylah Williams had 20 points and five rebounds, and Aneesah Morrow finished with a strong 23 points. Amazingly these three players scored all but 15 of the teams total points and they were still able to walk out with a win.
Although turnovers plagued the team in the first half they were able to clean it up in the second. Coach Kim Mulkey was not satisfied with the defensive effort from her team tonight either saying they looked “fatigued.”
The Tigers have almost a week off until they head to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators on Sunday, January 19th. AFter that they will start preparing to take on Dawn Staley and her Gamecocks in Columbia as they match up with South Carolina on Thursday, January 23rd.
