LSU Football Offensive Coordinator Joe Sloan spoke to the media following a closed practice.
The practice was originally open to the media, but it was changed Thursday night. With the speculation of Garett Nussmeier suffering a serious injury, this change only escalated rumors.
Before Coach Sloan came in to take questions, Brian Kelly addressed the media that Nussmeier is dealing with patella tendinitis.
“1.5 on a scale of 1-10 in seriousness,” Kelly said.
Coach Kelly told the media to not ask Coach Sloan questions about it.
Coach Sloan covered a lot of different topics, including the mindset and mission for the offense this season.
“Our focus is to keep tight-keep it smaller…,” Sloan said, “take advantage when the opportunity comes to be explosive.”
The offensive line has been one of the most intriguing topics surrounding the offense. Sloan touched on how the competition between the guards has been fun to watch.
“You like to see some of the freshman or second year players start to push and take that next step; and challenge some of those players in front of them.”
“I like the individual growth and collective growth of the offensive line.”
With the receiver room having depth, there is also competition for those starting spots as well. One strong contender is Chris Hilton Jr. The Zachary native is a fifth-year senior and is due for a breakout season.
“He brings another element to our offense that is an important piece.”
“I think fall camp he has really dialed in.”
