LSU Volleyball is off to a slow start closing out this weekend’s series 1-2. After finishing the 24-25 season ranked No. 10 in the SEC, the Tigers have a point to prove.
For one LSU Volleyball star, the desire to prove herself runs deeper as she begins her junior season campaign with the Tigers.
“It’s the NCAA leaving me out of the AVCA All-American and the Watchlist,” outside hitter Jurnee Robinson said. “So I think that just gives me motivation to like work harder and just show everybody that I’m meant to be on that list.”
While Robinson shined for the Tigers Saturday afternoon, her teammate and Ole Miss transfer Nia Washington did her part to keep the Tigers afloat heading into the second set. Finishing the match with 17 kills, the second-most for LSU, and 12 digs.
“Just making those changes a little quicker, I mean, I’m just doing my job,” Washington said. “The scout’s there for us to execute and have success so just making those adjustments and then give it to my team a little bit more.”
Despite standout performances from both Washington and Robinson, they were unable to hold off the Bears in the closing sets of the game.
Baylor’s Manuela Bibinbe and Grace Carroll were dominant forces on both sides of the net, overwhelming the Tigers set after set.
LSU Volleyball Head Coach Tonya Johnson credits the Bears’ diligence from the serving line.
“I thought we had a lot of fight at the end there, after starting slow in all four sets,” Johnson said. “I think they put a lot of pressure on us from the serving line and I thought their attacking was really good tonight.”
The Tigers will look to put together a more complete game as they head to The Bayou City for the Flo Hyman Classic on September 4 before returning back to Baton Rouge to face the Southeastern Lions on September 14.
