LSU Volleyball defeated the Southeastern Lions in three sets inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Sunday afternoon following dominating performances from outside hitters Jurnee Robinson and Nia Washington.
Robinson and Washington, both veterans on the Tiger squad, combined for 26 kills and 13 digs picking apart the Lions’ defense set-after-set.
The Tigers’ strength from the serving line was on full display as Washington would go on to serve three aces; the most between both squads.
After defeating the Lions 25-18 and 25-17 in the first two sets, Southeastern began to surge, holding a two-point lead in the final set reminding the Tigers not to get comfortable. Washington would make the set-point at the end of the third set to seal the victory over the Lions.
While the Tigers pulled out the star-studded win, Southeastern’s Kyra McKelvey and Ashley Richardson battled for the Lions with McKelvey finishing with 11 points and Richardson leading the way with 25 assists.
This win over the cross-town opponent marks the fifth straight victory for the Tigers.
They will travel to Los Angeles to take on the No. 16 USC Trojans on September 18 and look to keep their win streak alive and crawl into the national rankings.
