The Student Senate held an election at their meeting Wednesday where they named a new rules member at large.
Kelsey Womack, a political communication senior, won by a vote of 39-5-5 to marketing senior Joshua Jones. Members spoke in praise of both candidates, but ultimately Womack won the position.
“I think it important we have a wealth of experience in the Rules Committee during this point in time,” Sen. James William III said in support of Womack.
Womack was the chair of the Senate’s Campus Affairs and Sustainability Committee last year, and she ran for student body president in the spring. She was also on the leadership team for campus tour guides and serves as president of BridgeLSU, a student organization that hopes to bridge the gap between students of different political perspectives.
Also at the meeting, Jones presented SGB 1. If passed, this piece of legislation will appropriate a little over $2,000 towards national transfer student week.
Alongside this, new justices were appointed to the judicial branch. Ella Ligon, Tristan Simoncioni, Seth Sylve and Rian Burgess were all appointed.
This meeting focused primarily on appointing new positions. Mary Grant, Peyton Boone and Evangeline Dennis all were all appointed to the Student Technology Fee Committee. Dennis and Student Body Vice President Abry Layrisson were appointed to the Organizational Relief Fund Committee.
Konnor Crowder, Kristen Richard, Jessie Finn and Emerson DuPassage were also appointed to the Programming, Support and Initiatives Fund Committee.
Andre Korea was appointed as coordinator of philanthropy. Formerly, Korea was assistant coordinator of philanthropy.
Ethan Elmer, the speaker of the Senate, authored a resolution to thank those who helped with setting up SG’s new gameday tailgate, Tiger Lounge, including Interim President Matt Lee, LSU Dining and others. The Senate hopes to encourage the continuation of these tailgates.
