LSU delivered a decisive 56–10 win over Southeastern Louisiana in their last chance for a tune up before the gauntlet of SEC play.
This was a game that served less as a contest and more as a showcase of depth, execution, and readiness from LSU.
From the opening whistle, LSU imposed its will. The Tigers scored 28 points in the second quarter alone, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Lions before halftime.
Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, recovering from a torso injury, threw for 273 yards and 3 touchdowns. His timing with receivers was on point, and his pocket presence showed no signs of rust.
Michael Van Buren Jr. came into the game continuing LSU’s trend of developing depth at the quarterback position. The run game was equally dominant, with Ju’Juan Johnson punching in two rushing touchdowns and showcasing his burst and vision against SLU’s front.
Defensively, LSU was suffocating. The Tigers held SELA to just 30 total yards in the first half, with linebackers Whit Weeks and Davhon Keys stepping in for the injured West Weeks and delivering physical, assignment-sound play. The defensive line collapsed the pocket consistently, and the secondary allowed minimal separation, forcing SLU into short throws and quick punts.
Despite scoring late in the game, this was a chance for the Lions to measure themselves against SEC speed and physicality.
For LSU, the win was a chance to test what works for LSU’s offense and see who’s ready for future games. With Ole Miss on deck, the Tigers leave Week 4 with confidence, rhythm, and a quarterback who looks ready to lead.
