LSU Football is days away from kicking off the next few months of SEC play in Oxford.
The Tigers are 4-0 after dominating Southeastern 56-10. The LSU offense needed that week to tweak their explosiveness and strengthen some of their play calling. They did just that. LSU scored on eight consecutive drives.
This was a baby step in the right direction, but the Tigers are going to have to start sprinting by this Saturday.
LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly likes the improvement he saw. Kelly wanted the team to shy away from playing so tight and safe; he encouraged them to loosen up.
“I want our team to not be so scripted,” Kelly said. “I thought we got a little scripted offensively. You know, to the point where it was so planned out, and then the game starts. You have to adapt and adjust.”
And that is exactly what the Tigers did at the start of the second quarter. Garrett Nussmeier looked comfortable in the pocket, arguably the most comfortable he has looked this season. The run game is not up to par yet, but it is slowly getting there.
