The LSU Tigers rewrote history with a 4-1 victory over Texas A&M as the first win versus the Aggies in the soccer program.
Head Coach Sian Hudson acknowledged the monumental victory with pride. “Coach G is a legend at Texas A&M, and I respect him and the unbelievable program they have, but I think our girls are playing really well right now, and we showed that tonight.”
The Aggie defense faced an intense attack from LSU from the first whistle of the game. The 24th minute brought the decisive moment when defender Jazmin Ferguson used her height to score a header that gave LSU their first goal of the match.
Sariyah Bailey dominated the entire match. She started the second half by creating a play that allowed her to pass three defenders before scoring her first goal. Bailey then scored her second goal of the game with a corner shot.
“My coaches and my team gave me all the motivation to do that,” Bailey said.
Freshman Daniela Hellín scored her first college goal through precise passing from Bailey and Ava Galligan, who controlled the final third of the match.
The team-first approach became evident when Galligan stated that “It’s not just me that helps, it’s all 11 of us, or how big our roster is. Whether you’re on or off the field, everybody has a job.
The 4-1 victory demonstrated LSU’s complete control of the game through their 15-13 shot advantage and their essential conference win. The Tigers will now direct their attention toward their upcoming match at Ole Miss.
