As the Tigers prepare for Saturday’s critical matchup against Alabama, LSU Interim Head Coach Frank Wilson provides insight into the team’s focused and strategic mindset.
Wilson made it clear that preparation is the cornerstone of the game plan, regardless of the opponent.
“We’re prepared to compete, make adjustments, and continue to work with a workman-like mentality to the best of our ability,” Wilson said. “So that’s our game plan. That’s our mindset.”
Beyond sheer effort, Wilson is focused on ensuring the Tigers play a disciplined and intelligent brand of football. Wilson stressed the importance of strategic awareness to avoid costly
mistakes.
“Are we going to play smart football and be conscientious of the analytics and the things that could put us in harm’s way?” Wilson said. “Of course we will.”
This suggests LSU will not only rely on physical strength but also on tactical decisions and avoiding preventable errors that could derail their efforts.
When asked on whether quarterback Garrett Nussmeier would be a factor, Wilson pivoted to a philosophy of total offensive deployment, suggesting no talent will be left on the sideline.
“He will do all the things necessary to put us in position to win the game,” Wilson said. “We think we have a talented football team. Some of those guys at wide receiver, some of those guys at running back, some of those guys at the quarterback position. Any and every bullet that we have that we could use to advantage us, we will use it.”
That strongly hints at a potential willingness to use multiple personnel groupings and offensive packages, leveraging the strengths of all available players—including the depth at the quarterback position—to keep the opposition guessing and put LSU in the best possible position for a decisive win.
On the defensive side, the game plan is built around total space control.
“We like to use the word fit like a glove,” Wilson said. Where there’s a gap, you take all the air out of it and don’t leave available gaps for the offense to be able to run through.”
This tight, physical approach is intended to force the action and create opportunities for the back end of the defense to make plays.
“I think if we do those things in both the pass game and run game, it’ll give us an opportunity on the back end,” Wilson said.
The message is clear: LSU is entering Saturday’s game versus Alabama not only ready to outwork the opponent, but also ready to out-strategize them by deploying every ounce of talent at their disposal.
