LSU football has announced 11 new additions to the Tigers football staff ahead of the 2026 season that sees numerous hires from Ole Miss, with other hires from around the country.
New head coach Lane Kiffin made it a point to retain members of Tigers’ 2025 defensive staff ahead of the 2026 season in defensive coordinator Blake Baker, secondaries coach Corey Raymond, edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples, and safeties coach Jake Olsen.
As for the additions, headlining the way on the offensive side of the ball is Charlie Weis Jr. being named the Tigers offensive coordinator, with Kevin Smith joining as the Tigers assistant head coach and running backs coach.
Weis Jr and Smith are two of eight coaches who followed Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss to LSU. Other additions who made the switch from Oxford to Baton Rouge on the offensive side of the ball included Joe Cox as the tight ends and co-offensive coordinator, Geoge McDonald as the wide receivers and passing game coordinator, Sawyer Jordan as the inside wide receivers coach, and Dane Stevens as the quarterbacks coach.
From their time at Ole Miss, the Rebels averaged 38 points per game and led the SEC in yards per game in 498.0, passing yards per game in 312.4, and rushing touchdowns with 36. Ole Miss has scored 59 total offensive touchdowns this season, ranking second in the SEC.
LSU’s offensive line will be receiving help by way of Eric Wolford as the new offensive line coach. Wolford previously coached the offensive line at Kentucky.
On the defensive side of the ball, LSU has picked up Sterling Lucas as the defensive line coach, Chris Kiffin as the linebackers and co-defensive coordinator and Lou Spanos as the defensive line and pass rush specialist. As for specialists, Joe Houston has been named the special teams coordinator.
