In case you did not tune in for the 83rd annual Golden Globes Awards, here is a list of the notable moments, wins and snubs throughout the night. Whether your favorite movie or actor got awarded or not, it gave social media plenty to talk about.
First-Time Winners
This year’s Golden Globes featured many first-time winners, along with some milestones. For one, Owen Cooper won his first ever Golden Globe as best supporting actor in a TV series. Not only that, but his role in the 2025 Netflix miniseries “Adolescence” has racked him up a number of awards. This award marks him as the youngest person to win a Globe, an Emmy and a Critic’s Choice award back to back at just 16 years old.
We also have a plethora of first-time winners that were either a long time coming or happy surprises. Rose Byrne and Rhea Seehorn both won awards for their standout dramatic performances in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” and “Pluribus,” respectively.
Singer and actor Teyana Taylor won her first Globe as well in her short yet powerful supporting role in “One Battle After Another.” Not to mention Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, who held his own against Hollywood powerhouses in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture in the drama category.
The 2026 Golden Globes additionally saw the introduction of the new Best Podcast award. Saturday Night Live veteran Amy Poehler is the first ever recipient of this award for her hit podcast “Good Hang with Amy Poehler.”
Political Statements and LOL Moments
Naturally, an event of this size will feature people wanting to draw attention to certain causes. This ceremony featured a wide variety of statements from quiet to loud. Several celebrities could be seen wearing “Ice Out” and “Be Good” pins in reference to the recent killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In a more overt manner, longtime actor Robert De Niro took the stage to criticize Trump in an expletive way.
Not all moments were as serious as these; many people spent their on-stage time for levity, whether it be political or not. Returning host Nikki Glaser gave an honorary award for best editing to the U.S. Department of Justice in reference to the highly redacted Epstein files. She could later be seen sporting a “This Is Spinal Tap” cap in honor of deceased Hollywood legend Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner.
More comedic moments come from actor Stephen Graham being starstruck by Leonardo DiCaprio and Snoop Dogg in his award speech for his role in “Adolescence.” The aforementioned West Coast rapper also got censored for announcing how incredibly high he was during his speech.
Winners and Snubs
The movies that got the top honor wins for this year’s Golden Globes are “One Battle After Another” and “Hamnet.” “Hamnet” took the win for the Best Motion Picture in the drama category along with Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture in the drama category for Jessie Buckley’s performance. “One Battle After Another” received a whopping nine nominations and won four of them, including Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
On the TV side of things, “The Studio” and “The Pitt” were awarded the top honors for series in the musical or comedy and drama categories, respectively. Together with these series, “Adolescence” took home a staggering four wins.
Some of the biggest nominees seemed to fall to the wayside, however. While Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” was nominated for seven awards, it only received two. One of these awards was not even shown live on TV.
There were a number of films that surprisingly received no awards or nominations whatsoever. Hit fan favorites such as “Wicked: For Good” or “Superman” and critical darlings like “Frankenstein” or “Bugonia” left the show empty handed.
Overall, the 83rd Golden Globes were another chaotic and rewarding time for all. To see the full list of winners and nominees, check out the Golden Globes website.
