LSU defeated Milwaukee 21-7 and completed their first sweep of the season Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers once again got off to a slow start as Milwaukee jumped out to an early lead thanks to Dominic Kilber’s solo homerun in the top of the first off of starter William Schmidt.
Schmidt did enough for LSU to pick up the win, however it was not all smooth sailing as he allowed 3 ER in 4 IP while also walking three. Although Schmidt was not flawless today, he struck out nine batters which proves his pitch mix is top-notch.
Head Coach Jay Johnson was impressed with Schmidt’s performance and said the reason he had to take him out the game was because “he struck out too many guys,” thus resulting in a high pitch count.
The game was still tied after two and a half innings, but after that it was all LSU.
The Tigers offense was paced by junior outfielder Jake Brown who hit two home runs in the game – including a grand slam – and had a career high 6 RBIs. Seth Dardar also hit a home run and Trent Caraway added 5 RBIs, adding to the Tigers offensive attack.
Although LSU had an offensive outburst, Milwaukee did not help themselves as they issued 10 free passes (seven walks and three hit battsmen) and committed three errors.
The Panthers will look to clean up these mistakes while LSU looks to keep the hot bats rolling as both teams continue their non-conference schedules next week.
For LSU, this comes in the form of Kent State on Monday and Nicholls St. on Wednesday.
