LSU Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt McMahon speaks to the media after an 83-67 loss to Oklahoma.
The Tigers clearly struggled offensively against the Sooners, and McMahon takes full responsibility for not giving his players the best shot opportunity.
“Overall on the offensive end, I didn’t do a good enough job in getting our players high quality shots where we could be more efficient on the offensive end. We weren’t able to execute with the same efficiency and Oklahoma’s defense had a lot to do with that.” McMahon explained.
Oklahoma guards Nijel Pack and Xzayiver Brown didn’t struggle offensively on Saturday. Pack scored 21 points on 8-14 shooting and Brown scored 20 points on 6-10 shooting. They also dominated the game defensively, as LSU’s standout guard Max Mackinnon only had 17 points on 6-20 shooting. McMahon explains how both Oklahoma guards took over the game.
“I thought their guards dominated the game on both ends of the floor. I thought offensively we struggled to contain them one-on-one and they put pressure on our defense.” McMahon said.
The loss on Saturday marks the fourth straight home loss for the Tigers this season. McMahon talks about the difference his team plays while at the PMAC rather than on the road.
“Some of our better performances, our higher energy performances, have certainly been on the road. I don’t have the answer as to why that is, but I certainly understand the question.” McMahon explains.
The Tigers hope to bounce back with more energy as they go on the road to take on Auburn on Tuesday night.
