LSU Softball Head Coach Beth Torina spoke to the media following her team’ 7-0 win over Memphis to finish the LSU Invitational.
The Tigers had a great tournament, sweeping the competition out of Tiger Park, going 4-0 over the weekend. This was a much-needed boost to team morale as they are about to kick off SEC play with a tough matchup at Tennessee.
“They’re ranked number one for a reason,” Torina said regarding her next opponent.
Torina was tasked with navigating playing time throughout the tournament, making sure that everyone was healthy, and nobody was fatigued throughout the weekend. This was noted in the game against Memphis, as she made three changes to the lineup as the game progressed.
It’s important that she can trust the players she selects to play because defense is necessary when winning. The Tigers made play after play defensively, keeping plenty of runs off the board throughout the weekend.
“They’re making a lot of hard things look easy,” Torina said regarding her team’s outstanding defense over the weekend.
Torina and company will need the team to be at its best as they start SEC play. LSU travels to Knoxville to take on No. 1-ranked Tennessee to start conference play on Friday, March 6th.
