MiLaysia Fulwiley is officially the SEC Sixth Women of the Year, leading the group of four LSU Women’s Basketball players who were recognized in the league’s postseason awards.
Fulwiley has been one of the most productive bench players in the country, averaging 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.1 steals in the 30 regular season games she’s played as a Tiger. She is the team leader in blocks, also second in the SEC and 13th nationally in steals.
Fulwiley is coming off one of the best stretches of her career with a career-high 26 points against Ole Miss and her first double-double against Missouri. Fulwiley’s ability to impact the game every time she comes off the bench is no surprise as this is her second time being named the Sixth Woman of the Year, receiving this award last year in her sophomore season with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Fulwiley is now the third Tiger to be honored along with Sylvia Foweles in 2005 and Allison Hightower in 2008.
Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams were both selected to the All-SEC First Team for the second year in a row. As a vocal leader, Flau’jae Johnson is averaging 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
Williams has averaged 13.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during the regular season, scoring double digits in 23 out of 30 games she’s played. Recently, Williams tied her season high 26 points and had a career high of 15 rebounds against Mississippi State.
Freshman ZaKiyah Johnson earned a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team. Johnson has been one of Kim Mulkey’s most versatile players, averaging 10.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She has started 18 games and also ended up being more active in the paint than the perimeter. ZaKiyah Johnson is the ninth LSU player to be named to the All-SEC Freshman team.
LSU walking into the postseason with four SEC honorees is a strong statement as the Tigers prepare for tournament play.
