LSU star point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. is planning to enter the transfer portal, On3’s Joe Tipton announced Wednesday.
Thomas was a big grab for Matt McMahon prior to the 2025-26 season after two stellar years at UNLV. He averaged 15.1 points per game for LSU which was second on the team, and led with 6.5 assists per game.
In his only year with LSU, Thomas played in just three SEC games due to a foot injury. His season was officially shut down on February 14 when the team announced he was getting surgery.
This announcement comes with the uncertainty of the team’s future regarding McMahon and the possible return of Will Wade, should he choose to leave NC State for LSU.
LSU’s main choice at point guard among rostered players will now be Jalen Reece, who finished his freshman season as a starter in place of the injured Thomas.
Reece’s retention would be huge, as he averaged 5.8 points and 3.6 assists per game, but nothing is for certain in this college sports landscape.
