LSU Women’s Basketball fell to the Duke Blue Devils 87-85, eliminating them from the NCAA tournament in the Sweet Sixteen round.
LSU seemed sluggish from the start with the only points on the board being two made free throws from Mikaylah Williams to start the game. From there, Duke went on a 9-0 run forcing the Tigers to use a timeout with just over six minutes left in the first.
After the run, LSU bit back bringing the score to 13-9 by the next timeout just under two minutes later.
Duke began the second quarter outscoring the Tigers, 10-4, pushing its lead out to 11 with their high-tempo offense.
LSU fought the double-digit deficit and got it to five with an and-one from senior Amiya Joyner. Both teams went into the half fighting for top sport going shot-for-shot with the Blue Devils coming out on top 47-40 going into halftime
Milaysia Fulwiley carried the offense for the Tigers with 18 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half the Tigers went down swinging bringing the game within single digits numerous times, never being fully out of the rubber match.
The Tigers had pulled themselves from an 11-point hole to grab two go ahead free throws by Mikaylah Williams with 9.2 seconds left.
With those made, the Tigers had tied it up, hoping to overcome their start and pull out a win.
Duke’s Ashlon Jackson pulled off a buzzer-beater setting of pandemonium in the Golden 1 center and sealing the Tigers fated loss.
Flau’Jae Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds in her final game as a Tiger. MiLaysia Fulwiley spearheaded the Tiger offense with 28 points closely followed by 22 points from Mikaylah Williams.
Duke got their get back from the early season loss to the Tigers in the ACC-SEC challenge. The Blue Devils will now got on to face the UCLA Bruins in the Elite Eight round.
