LSU Softball defeated the Arizona Wildcats in the second game of their series on Saturday, April 11. The Tigers scored three runs and held Arizona to just one run for the second time.
The Tigers started off the game strong. With good defense, the first three innings went quickly, allowing no hits or runs. Cece Cellura was on the mound for LSU.
In the first inning, Kylee Edwards tripled to right field, bringing in Jalia Lassiter who was on first base. This got the adrenaline rolling for the team as the energy immediately picked up. Shortly after, Alix Franklin hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field, bringing Edwards in. This was the second and last of the runs scored, until the 6th inning.
The Wildcats could not beat the Tiger defense for most of the game. The team was strong and together but at one point, things got rocky. The energy was tense for both teams. Arizona started to make some plays, and LSU was not together defensively.
The Tigers started to play as if they were down, which brought the energy back to zero. Head Coach Beth Torina then called a timeout and as said by Cece Cellura, Torina told the team “Don’t give in” during this stressful moment. After this, LSU turned up the energy and kept pushing.
The Tigers found themselves with loaded bases after Char Lorenz was hit by a pitch. Ally Hutchins was also walked shortly after, allowing Maddox McKee to score the third and final run.
The hitting game leaders for Arizona were Jenna Sniffen and Regan Shockey, each having two hits. Neither one of these players scored runs for their team but attempted to make a change in the score by getting the ball down.
For LSU, Kylee Edwards was a standout player for Saturday’s game with one run, one hit, and one RBI.
The Tigers will finish their series against Arizona on Sunday, April 12 at 11 a.m. in Tiger Park.
