LSU Softball fell to the Arizona Wildcats 4-2 in the final game of the series, failing to collect on the sweep they were hoping for.
Though the Tigers clinched the series win after beating the Wildcats in the previous two games, the Tigers failed to close out the weekend on the high they’d hoped for.
“Overall, it was a great weekend,” said Head Coach Beth Torina. “We’d like to have this one back. Winning the series is not enough. We need to try to win every game. On the other hand, Arizona is a really great team. They’re having an incredible year, so getting two wins is a good deal.”
Paytn Monticelli was in the circle for the Tigers to start and though she was charged with the loss, she was a standout for the team finishing with four strikeouts allowing just three runs, two hits, and three walks in just over five innings.
“She deserved better today,” Torina stated when asked what she thought of Monticelli’s performance. “She was incredible.
Another standout for the Tigers was centerfielder Jalia Lassiter who recorded her fourth three hit game of the season and ended going 3-4 at the plate with three hits, one run, and two putouts.
“Nothing really changes, no matter what the score is, what the game is, my plan stays the same, and I’m just a competitor,” Lassiter said about her performance on the day. “Out there, get on base is just my goal and whatever it takes it what I will do,”
The Tigers got out of this win on top, but as they head to Lafayette to face UL for a midweek matchup and welcome Ole Miss to Tiger Park next weekend, they’ll work towards finishing out in every aspect of their game.
