LSU Softball had a comeback win against the Ole Miss Rebels Friday, April 17.
Although this was a close matchup, the Tigers were able to up the run count after being down 4-1 in the sixth inning. After a grand slam and in the park home run by first baseman, Tori Edwards, the Tigers were able to take the lead 6-4.
“In that moment, I just wanted so badly to produce for this team,” said Tori Edwards. “We were kind of in a rough spot offensively but just seeing what we’ve been doing over the course of the last few weeks, I knew it was coming. I just knew at that point that it was my turn to get it done.”
“It was just a big energy boost for us and I felt it going into the seventh. It was just a great way to wrap up the game and put the nail in the coffin,” stated Paytn Monticelli, who pitched two innings for LSU. Monticelli believes the big hit by T. Edwards unified the group ending the game.
LSU Softball head coach Beth Torina explained that she thought her team did what they needed to do. “I honestly thought that they executed the game plan beautifully. The game plan was to have some patience and one big swing.” She continued to say, “I thought they did exactly what we asked them to do. Flood the bases, have some patience, and still be aggressive on the right ones.”
Torina thought that it was a game full of many “cool” performances but “It would’ve been really easy to give in.” This was a big lift for the Tigers opening their series against Ole Miss. They won the first battle and will follow this game with another evening performance, Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
