After months of hype, LSU fans have been teased with limited practice video of #1 overall recruit Leonard Fournette. While real game action is less than three weeks away, Tiger fans got their first real look at Fournette – off the field.
While Fournette is heralded for his talent on the field, it was his demeanor that stole the show at LSU’s media day. Humble, gracious, and thankful – Fournette showed exactly why he’s becoming one of the most revered freshman in LSU history.
“I just block it out, you know…my mother, she texts me every day. She tells me ‘Be humble,'” Fournette said.
He’s doing a good job at ignoring the immensely high praise. Even head coach Les Miles has mentioned the names Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods in the same sentence as the true freshman. Despite the lofty expectations from both inside and outside the program, Fournette has his head in the right place and his team mates have noticed it, too.
“He doesn’t really listen to all of the outsiders,” says Clifton Garrett (a fellow true freshman). “He’s a focused man and he’s a real humble guy. He works extremely hard and definitely deserves everything he’s gotten so far.”
As expected, this will probably end up being the last media appearance for Fournette and his fellow freshman team mates. Fournette is fully aware of that fact – yet he’s content with just playing the game of football.
“From now on…I’ll let my talent and ability speak for itself.”
