A small fire destroyed a clothing dryer in the Jeff Boss Locker Room of Tiger Stadium Friday afternoon.
Mark Smith, Baton Rouge Fire Department station No. 11 relief captain, said the fire caused damage only to the dryer. The dryer appeared to overheat, igniting its contents, which were likely towels.
Smith said University employees within the locker room extinguished most of the fire by the time firemen responded.
“They did a real good job of putting it out,” Smith said. “They made our job easier.”
Smith said a burning smell alerted the employee who used a fire extinguisher to smother the flames.
