Student Government and the LSU Athletic Department are selling pajama pants again this year for the Pajama Game on Saturday. Wearing the pants to the first home game in Tiger Stadium is an LSU tradition dating back to when ROTC freshmen were required to shave their heads and wear pajamas to the game. Some students are excited to participate in the tradition for the first time. “It’s my first game and apparently it’s the cool thing to do,” said Amanda DeRoche, psychology freshman who bought the pants. “It gives me an excuse to buy $15 pajama pants.” The pants cost $14.98 plus tax but neither SG or the Athletic Department make a profit off the pants. “There is no profit,” Dustin Talbot, director of public relations, said. “There’s no mark up other than to pay for shipping and stuff.” The pants are being sold at the LSU Bookstore in the Union and on the Bookstore’s Web site for the first time. “This is the first year the Bookstore has taken on the task,” said Paul Stevenson, LSU Bookstore manager. Stevenson said the pants are selling quickly for the game against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. “Between ourselves and the Athletic Department, there’s 3,500 pants,” Stevenson said. “We have 3,000 here in the bookstore, and they’ve been selling phenomenally.” The tradition was revived by SG members for the 2004 season and it continues this year. The Bookstore sold the pants this week and they will be sold Friday at Fall Fest. Limited numbers of the pants will also be sold on Saturday by official Tiger vendors before the game. Stevenson encourages students to buy their pants soon. “Get them now because they’ll be gone by gametime,” Stevenson said.
