In a press conference Monday Will Wade said that Freshman Guard Brandon Rachal and Sophomore Forward Wayde Sims were suspended for Wednesday night’s game at Tennessee, and that Freshman forwards Galen Alexander and Mayan Kiir were being granted “leaves of absence” for the remainder of the season after violating team policies.
“Well, [Sims and Rachal] just made a mistake. They made a mistake that young people make,” Wade said.
Alexander and Kiir face heftier penalties. ”Galen will take a leave of absence from our team for the rest of the season,” Wade said.
“As it relates to Kiir, he’s someone who’s going to take a leave of absence as well,” Wade said.
Alexander will be looking for a change of scenery at the end of the season, while Kiir could be back with the Tigers next season.
“[Alexander] will look for other places at the end of the season,” Wade said.
“[Kiir] could possibly be back, so he’s not dismissed or anything like that. He needs some time; if he meets certain standards that we have clearly laid out for him, there’s a possibility that he could be back for our team,” Wade said.
The Tigers take on the Tennessee Volunteers Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Knoxville, Tennessee.
