LSU Facility Services truck stolen from warehouse
LSUPD spokesperson Lt. Kevin Scott said a 52-year-old man was charged in the theft of an LSU Facility Services truck and other stolen items.
Scott said the truck was stolen from the LSU Facility Services warehouse area on Etienne De Boreon Sept. 3, along with items from a van and the back of another truck.
Through the course of the investigation, Scott said LSUPD identified the suspect as Michael Hamilton. Hamilton was issued a warrant and eventually arrested on Sept. 22 by LSUPD, Scott said.
Hamilton was charged with auto theft, burglary, theft and possession of stolen items. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. All stolen items were later recovered by LSUPD and returned to Facility Services.
Non-student catches second charge after stealing keys, car from Law lot
Scott said 18-year-old non-student La-Treval Jones was arrested for stealing a vehicle from the Faculty Law Lot Sept. 23.
LSUPD responded to a call that day from the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in reference to a vehicle reported stolen from the Faculty Law Lot. Scott said LSUPD observed security footage and learned Jones entered an unlocked office in the Law Center and stole a set of keys that belonged to the victim.
LSUPD immediately informed all local law enforcement of the stolen vehicle, and it wasn’t long before Jones was spotted driving the vehicle on Perkins Road, Scott said. BRPD then stopped the vehicle and arrested Jones for burglary and auto theft, Scott said. He was later booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Jones was previously arrested by LSUPD in April for theft of a credit card in an unlocked office of the Student Union, Scott said.
Former University student turns self in a month after disturbance inside Student Union
A former University student turned himself in after creating multiple disturbances at an office in the Student Union, Scott said.
LSUPD officers were called to the Office of the Dean of Students inside the Student Union on Aug. 25, Scott said. A former University student, 35-year-old Sidney Martin III, had reportedly come to the office multiple times without an appointment over the past three days, Scott said. When LSUPD was called to the office on Aug. 25, Martin fled. A warrant was then issued for Martin’s arrest, Scott said.
On Tuesday, Sept. 27, Martin turned himself in to LSUPD and was arrested for obstruction or interfering with a University office. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Former University student charged with cyberstalking of faculty members
Scott said a former University student was arrested for cyberstalking after sending harassing emails to University faculty members.
Rashmi Dixit, 56, was charged with cyberstalking after being told to stop contacting University faculty, Scott said. LSUPD had previously investigated complaints about Dixit after he contacted several faculty members in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and harassed them via email. Scott said Dixit was contacted and told to stop sending the emails, but he continued.
A warrant was issued for Dixit’s arrest on Sept. 16. He was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
