For eight straight years, LSU has broken its own freshman enrollment record. A big part of that sustained growth has come from one region of the U.S., a new analysis has found.
The number of students from the Northeast U.S. that have chosen LSU multiplied by nearly five from 2014 to 2023, according to Axios’ analysis of data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System.
The change from 2014 to 2023 in new students from the Northeast U.S. that have enrolled at LSU is 486%.
That percent increase leads the SEC by a large margin.
All but four of the SEC’s universities have experienced growth in students from the Northeast. Tennessee is the closest to LSU with a 378.7% increase.
Out-of-state students are becoming a larger and larger part of LSU’s enrollment. In fall 2024, 40.4% of the freshman class came from outside of Louisiana.
