LSU administration and Baton Rouge law enforcement hosted a news conference on Thursday, October 16th, giving an update on campus security and game day. Interim President Matt Lee announced that Unity Field will be closed for the remainder of the football season, and vehicle access to Highland Road will be blocked without a pass.
LSU is planning to crack down on disorderly conduct, like smoking marijuana and having firearms on campus, with plans to detain anyone violating these laws.
LSU Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott Ballard explains what he hopes to achieve with these new laws.
“Going forward, we expect these changes will yield not only a safe environment, but a better gameday experience for our fans and their families,” Ballard said.
These laws come after Saturday’s shooting on Highland Road during the LSU Homecoming game and another shooting incident during LSU’s game on September 13th. Gov. Landry then ordered Louisiana Police to work with LSU Police and Baton Rouge authorities to develop an enhanced security plan for LSU’s next home game on Oct 25th.
This is a developing story.
