LSU’s presidential search committee decided Thursday to move forward by asking six candidates to apply for the university’s open presidency.
Five of the candidates are McNeese State University President Wade Rousse, LSU Interim President Matt Lee, former University of Arizona President Robert Robbins, South Carolina Vice President of Research Julius Fridriksson and Tulane Vice President of Research Giovanni Piedimonte.
The sixth candidate asked that their name and university of employment be confidential, according to SSA Consulting, the firm that assembled and vetted candidates on the search committee’s behalf. If they choose to apply, they must make their name public by Wednesday. The applicant’s current role is senior vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer.
The search committee will now hold public interviews with the candidates on Wednesday starting at 9 a.m.
The committee also previously said it would meet with key LSU stakeholders, including the Board of Supervisors, chancellors at the LSU system universities, Boyd Professors, faculty, students and donors.
These meetings will familiarize the committee with different groups’ preferences and inform which three candidates the committee recommends to the Board of Supervisors.
After the committee recommends three finalists, the Board of Supervisors will hold a special session, yet to be scheduled, to vote on the university’s next president.
Former President William Tate IV left the university in May and took the same position at Rutgers University. Lee has served as the interim ever since.
These candidates were assembled and vetted by SSA Consulting, the firm the search committee has partnered with. SSA provided the committee with a list of 30 candidates that had expressed interest but not applied.
