Reading is an essential part of our daily lives, filling our minds with knowledge and helping us slow down to focus.
Reading books can bring positive changes in our human development, enabling us to understand others’ emotions and strengthen our relationships.
The brain relies on the human body to stay active and connected, with the ability to adapt to what you learn.
To highlight the importance of reading books, the LSU NAACP has initiated a book drive for children, aiming to support literacy and learning in the Baton Rouge community.
LSU NAACP Education Co-Chair, Brooklyn Thompson, shares what results she hopes will come out of the drive.
“We really see a need for these books in our communities, regardless of our students’ background or class,” Thompson said.
“We want [them] to have the power [to] access to these reading materials, so they can have the power to grow in their reading levels and grow in all levels of education.”
It is essential to read a book at least once a day because it can enhance your memory and retention skills.
Studies show that reading a book before you go to bed can also improve sleep quality and alleviate insomnia.
LSU NAACP Education Chair, Landyn Thompson, shares why reading books is important & what it can bring to a community.
“I believe that every book donated will spark curiosity and inspire someone’s future,” Thompson said.
“This book drive reminds us that sharing knowledge is one of the [most] powerful things [we] can do as a community.”
LSU NAACP is raising a good amount of books, which will help Baton Rouge children learn to read and understand words through books.
If you want to make your brain stronger and healthier, make sure to pick up a book and read for a bit every day.
